Customized Classic Car Insurance Coverage for Your Vintage Automobile
If you're a proud owner of a vintage, antique, or collectible car, you need classic car insurance to protect your beloved investment. Whether it's a prime spot in your garage or an extra dab of polish on the wheels, your collector car deserves extra TLC.
GEICO knows that your collector car is more than just a car. That's why a classic car insurance policy is so much more than just a standard auto policy. Traditional insurance policies may not consider the unique issues that come up when a vehicle represents a significant financial investment, like when replacement parts are nearly impossible to find.
What does classic car insurance cover?
A classic car insurance policy provides many of the same coverages as a regular auto insurance policy. A classic car policy can provide liability coverages, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, and medical coverages like personal injury protection or medical payments coverage. You can also purchase towing and roadside assistance reimbursement.
The primary difference in a classic car insurance policy is the coverage it provides for your vehicle under collision and comprehensive coverages. These coverages will be based on the agreed value of your vehicle. This amount is an agreement between you, as the owner, and the insurer on the value of the vehicle the policy is written for. This amount usually considers industry guidelines and is generally reviewed upon policy renewal.
Up to $500 coverage for spare parts may also be available. You can add additional spare part coverage for additional premium.
What makes a car a classic?
Your vehicle is your pride and joy, but what exactly makes it a classic in insurance terms? Typically, they're vehicles that hold or appreciate in value and are used primarily for pleasure, versus getting you from point A to point B. They're considered collectable because there's enough historical interest to make these beauties worth preserving and restoring.
Does your vehicle qualify for classic car insurance?
To qualify, your collector vehicle should be:
- At least 25 model years older
- A new exotic car, such as an Aston Martin, Lotus, Alfa Romeo, etc.
- A new replica car, like a 1966 Batmobile
- A classic military vehicle, hearse, fire truck, etc.
Additionally, your vehicle must be:
- Used only for exhibitions, club activities, and occasional pleasure/leisure (not primary transportation)
- Stored in a fully enclosed and locked structure
Why should I consider collector car insurance?
- Low deductibles
- Your vehicle is covered at agreed value, meaning no depreciation if there's a claim
- No vehicle appraisal needed
